starter fitting question

i did the paperclip trick with the starter to make sure the clearance was ok, everything was fine there. BUT the starter is sticking on the flywheel. If it is shimmed or not. could it be that the flywheel is to far over and needs to be loosened and adjusted?.....HELP!!!!

Re: starter fitting question

i just looked at something and this is what i found. On the old mini-starter I had that worked (before it fried) the throw out gear was shorter than the one on the new mini starter. So apparently this is the problem with it catching up. Are big block mini starters and small block mini starters the same? Or is this common and I have the incorrect starter?
