Blonde Question, But I'll ask anyway...

Rebuilding a 67 coupe w/400 SBC and TH350, neither original (obviously) to the car. I'm going part shopping today (Yipee) for things like plugs, plug wires, supports, etc. Do I buy those based on the year of the car or the year of the engine? (Engine born 2/78) I'm thinking buy by the year of the engine... Sheetmetal and such goes by year of car correct?

Re: Blonde Question, But I'll ask anyway...

definitely engine year for tuneup stuff, if the heads are the ones the motor was born with.
If they are not... you'll need to do some studying as to what they are and what plugs they take...

Examples:
a stock firsgen head uses "big short plugs" 3/8" reach, with a gasket, uses a 13/16" socket.

My old Dart iron eagle heads used "peanut" plugs, 3/4" reach tapered seat (no gasket) uses 5/8" wrench.

My current AFR heads use 3/4" reach with a gasket! still 5/8" wrench.

And this is just physical differences, once you find out what will screw in the hole, you need to think about heat range!

In the case of plug wires, you will need to know what distributor you have. The old GM points style, required different ends of the wire then that of a GM HEI. If you have an aftermarket distributor you may need (male or female) different ends also. Take an old wire with you, to compare !

69 Camaro -originally a LM1 car. 327, Edelbrock E-streets, hooker, DUI performance distributors, ultradyne cam, stewart, TRW etc. Vintage Air, AGR steering, Corbeau GTSII seats, 700R4 transmission, 12-bolt w/Eaton 4.11:1

No problem....I'll match the plugs that are currently in it but need replacing, and take one of the wires with me. Same with the battery cables, since the ones I am currently using are too long. Anyone want to take a stab at radiator hoses???

Rad. hoses!

I always take my old ones w/ me and politely ask if I can check their back wall hang-up hose's so I can find what I need. Sure save's them from going back and forth.

Good thinking. I haven't had the fan shroud on since I got the car but that shouldn't make a difference correct?

Re: Blonde Question, But I'll ask anyway...

The shroud won't make a diff. The thermostat housing could. The alt location won't on a 67, the correct hose expects the alternator to be in the way. Won't be a problem is it's not.

21" or 23" rad core could make a diff. If your core measures 23" between the tanks, get a hose for an a/c car.
