fuel filter

can a dirty fuel filter really keep your car from running at all. my 90 camaro RS will start up but then just die after about 2 seconds. i have fuel getting to my engine but then it seems that after i start it it doesnt get it anymore. if i change the fuel filter and it keeps doing it what else could it be??

Bryan, How are you checking the fuel pressure?

You might have some fuel getting to the engine, but it must be 38 - 40 psi. to run.

You might have fuel getting to the rail, but if it let's say only 20 psi, it would stall like you describe.

You would need to put a fuel pressure gauge on it.

Yes, a plugged filter could do it, but judging from all your other posts it sounds like a bad pump.

i just had a new pump and tank put in last july/august, so i dont think its that, im going to change the fuel filter and see what happens, if thats not it could it be the fuel pressure regulator located under my intake manifold?

Best to check the fuel pressure with a gauge to rule it out.
