Which Flywheel

Wasnt sure ir this was a trans question or engine question.

Im installing my BTO 200r4 trans in my 69. The block number is 3932388, ive decoded this as a 350 engine. Im pulling out my 4 speed so i need a new flexplate. When i search for flywheels i find flywheels for turbo 400 and non turbo 400. Im assuming i want a non 400 but figured id ask our engine guru's here.

Thanks

Hatya

Re: Which Flywheel

You need either a 10.4" or an 11" depending if your bellhousing is small or big!

You can tell b/c your starter mount bolts will either be straight across for the smaller bellhousing or staggered for the bigger one!

And please check Northern Auto Parts for what you need. It might save you a penny or three!

Paul,

PS., and please read this..

"just ordered a flywheel and clutch..
Flywheel $103
and clutch was $117.
shipping on orders over $50 is free"

And Tom's great link here!!

DZAUTO’s bellhousing link.

However, GM cast literally millions of the 460 486 bell housing to cover the larger flywheel and clutch in 1970's light trucks, both 6 and 8 cylinder. The problem is the Muncie SM 465 truck transmissions had a 5 1/8" (5.125) front bearing retainer, so you can't use it with the smaller car transmissions.

Luckily, a 4 11/16" x 5 1/8" bushing is available from Novak part # BR-4 (about $40) at www.novak-adapt.com or 877-602-1500.

Dennymac, (Dennis), also sells these here. He recently said “I appreciate the recommendation. If you want to include me as a friendly supplier of these adapter rings, I get $28US delivered for them. My contact information is cell phone 502-558-1043, and email is [email protected] Best of luck.
Thanks again. Dennymac Dennis McLeod

I bought one of the adapter rings, and used the truck bell housing, which cost $25 at my local salvage yard, where they use the truck bell housings for door stops.

The 486 dust cover is GM part #340 254.

This will bring you up to speed on probably more than you want to know.
