ZZ502/502 questions

I chose a ZZ502/502 engine for my '67. The clearance between the firewall and the HEI distributor is sufficient for the engine to torque L and R without rubbing on the nice paint job. I also notice that most other users of this engine have changed the distributor to an aftermarket high performance distributor. Does anyone know if this is strictly done to improve the performance of this engine or for clearance reasons or both? I would appreciate any input on this distributor question as well as any other experience you may want to share about the performance of this engine. Thanks, Ken

Re: ZZ502/502 questions

If you have the incorrect motor mounts a smaller dizzy is what youd be after for clearance and it would also improve performance.

Seems like you have the right motor mounts. You dont really need a smaller dizzy unless of course you want more performance in which case youd want a custom curve kit specifically designed for your particular engine.
I understand that the ZZ502 is a great performance engine. Is yours bone stock or have you changed anything?
Good luck!
