New ZZ4 Rockers Noisey?????

I got my new ZZ Fastburn running and the valvetrain seems noisey. Is this normal or are the valves loose and need adjusted? It's amazing withgood exhaust how quiet everything is, but the valvetrain is noisey as heck.

I would run the valves soon. I presume this was a complete motor?

Re: New ZZ4 Rockers Noisey?????

I had a zz3 which was the same way. - used to just take the valve covers off and adjust em with it running. Took just a few minutes..

I've read somewhere that these engines are just inherent to run noisy. I've just learned to live with it.

Re: New ZZ4 Rockers Noisey?????

What's happening , especially with anything over .525 lift , is the dogbone shaped retainer is actually lifting slightly off the block and coming back down causing a ticking sound , plus the metal "spider" amplifies the sound like a drum ! I had a ZZ383 that did this , also the 1.6 aluminum GM rockers are inheirently noisy , kind of a mechanical noise , if you will .

Re: New ZZ4 Rockers Noisey?????

Thanks everyone. I will check the valves in a few hundred miles, but it sounds like cheby 2 has a good answer. IT sounds like all of the rockers and not just one or two. It is a consistent sounds. I mainly wanted to hear if the ZZ motors normally came with loose rockers or if this is the case of a common mechanical noise.
