Re: bent crank

More likely a bad damper. At least that is easier to replace than the crank!!!

Re: bent crank

Pull the damper off and set up a dial indicator on the crank snout. That is one way to tell for sure. I would suspect the damper but, it very well could be the crank snout. If the snout itself were bent I would suspect your timing cover seal to be leaking and/or damaged. How much movement are we talking?

Re: bent crank

I have seen a motor with the same condition you described that had a broken crank and still ran. It could be broken.

Re: bent crank

Are you sure it's the balancer??.....I suspect either a bent, warped or out of round crank pulley!

Re: bent crank

I bought a New 72 Challenger 340 MAG RS and drove it across the street and pulled the engine. Of course I voided my warranty right there - LOL Any way my job required, I do a lot of driving and I wanted something more. In the process of the motor tare down to install a Crane Cam, heads with Larger Valves and employ the infamous SB Dodge Oil Gallery Mod, I came across 2 cross threaded Connecting Rod Bolts, right from Chrysler.
