Head and Intake Gasket Suggestions

Putting my 350 SB back together soon and was wondering which head and intake gaskets to use. The block wasn't decked and seems like we have plenty of piston to deck clearance (0.035) and valve to piston clearance (see pic). Block bore .040 over and using flat top pistons with 4 valve reliefs. Using stock iron 300hp heads that have been reworked with 2.02/1.6 valves and a Edelbrock Performer intake. Read here that with the aluminum intake a 1206FP intake gasket should be used. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Tim

Why not just buy the felpro complete gasket set?Summit or Jegs just call them tell them what you got?

Re: Head and Intake Gasket Suggestions

Was hoping to purchase the gaskets locally. Just not sure the sets sold at the part stores are suitable. That is why I'm seeking part numbers to check by.

Re: Head and Intake Gasket Suggestions

The blue fel pro gaskets that you get over the counter are ok but very generic and probably won't fit your application.
Do it right and measure the ports and you may even need a thicker gasket.
I used the otc fel pro gaskets last 3 times and with a decked block, 190cc intake runner heads milled the gasket hangs into the intake runner and is leaking in 3 different ports bad. Now I will go back, measure and buy the good quality gaskets that fit my application.
Mr. gasket are good.
As for the head gasket since you block hasn't been decked use a .025" composite head gasket from competition products.
I'd tell you to use a .015" shim steel but it probably would not seal well because your block was not recently machined, or your heads.

The only Mustang I'd ever own is a Fender.

Re: Head and Intake Gasket Suggestions

Okay, measured the inside dimensions on the intake and head.

Head - W=1.119" H=1.958"
Intake - W=1.132" H=1.904"

Does this tell me to use a 1.25" x 2.0" gasket?
.060 thick?

Re: Head and Intake Gasket Suggestions

I think this rubber coated shim is what I would try
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...4&autoview=sku

And either a fel pro 1205 or 1206 will get you fine on the intake gkt.

You should probably lay a straight edge on the block. Some guys will hand work the block with a hone stone to get it flat.

Re: Head and Intake Gasket Suggestions

1205 - 1.28x2.09
1206 - 1.31x2.21

Any advantage using the one that is closer to the port size (1205)? Also, should I use the Red RTV per engine assembly instructions? Read that some don't use the sealer.

Noticed that you recommend a .015 thick head gasket, since the block hasn't been decked should I consider a thicker gasket (.025)?

Thanks!
