L88 race engine?

Hi, ive found a 427 block in a container last winter.
Its a 3963512 block and the casting date is D 22 9.
The sufix code is GEO. 16 FOLTZ.
Is this a L88 race block made by George Foltz?

Re: L88 race engine?

Man! I've Built 100'rds of Race Engines in my life. Sure makes me wonder if I didn't make a mistake by not re-stamping the Block with a "RGD" Suffix - LOL

I realize the FOLTZ Block may have Specific Core Modifications.

Re: L88 race engine?

Ive heard that race team and Super car dealers could order L88 race engines from Chevrolet racing dept.
George Foltz was building engines for Can Am series.
Did he make L88 race engines and stamp his name on it?

Re: L88 race engine?

As 512 blocks weren't specific to the L-88 ,you could call it whatever you want ,but as theres no documentation to show it's is/was an L-88.
Now if you got documentation from Foltz ,that would give it some pedigree.

Re: L88 race engine?

The bore is 4.375", that would be 452, 453 cu/in.
Mopar had 426 race Hemi, and those engine builders stamp there name on the block.

Re: L88 race engine?

I know that 3963512 was for all 427, two and four bolt, low and high perf
I´m not asking about ordinary L88, i´m taking about L88 RACE engine.

Re: L88 race engine?

If I recall the CanAM 427 had a 3.55" Stroke with that 4.375 Bore and ran Hilborn Fuel Injection

Re: L88 race engine?

The 430"er was a 4.44" b x 3.47" s engine.

And I think it used the "rare as hen's teeth", long GM BB rod. I want to say it is 6.401" long but I may be off here??
