327 Id

I have a friend that says he has a 327 double hump head engine, 1967. How do you tell if the heads are what he says and verify the date?

Smile Re: 327 Id

Look on the top of them between the rocker studs for the casting number and the date stuff.

Casting number may end like this, -291, or this, -462 and other numbers.

Date stuff is alpha numeric like "A" for January, then "14" for the day of the month and finally like "7" for the year 1967. (I.e., A 14 7).

Hope this helps and MorTec's great site

http://www.mopar1.us/ebay/MorTec,%20...ers%20List.htm

is a lot of help here too as is the Chevytech site

Re: 327 Id

pdq,
If the heads are 291's instead of 462's are they worth saving?

Re: 327 Id

-291's, good double-hump heads. May be medium or big valve so you never know until you look at the valves.

Re: 327 Id

Just looked at the heads. They are the 492. The block casting numbers show this to be a 327-350 out of a Corvette or Chevelle. Make any since??

Re: 327 Id

-492's can mean a few different things. Small, medium or large. What's the rest of the casting number?

Re: 327 Id

I don't think -492's were ever installed on a production engine so go from there. May have been tho for all I know so please bear w/ me.

Over-the-counter, OK.

Re: 327 Id

Good old school heads. Your standard double humps. Will work well on a 327, if they're still in good shape.

when i was talking to a new potential engine builder, he asked me about the engine, i have the 462 heads also, and i told him it had the "fuelie" heads

and he told me that i didnt have them (i didnt tell him the casting number or anything)

so is there a specific type of camel hump that is considered the fuelie head, or are they all?

i got the feeling that he thought i had no idea what i was talking about with engines
