Muffler recommendation: Flowmaster sound without flowmaster $$$???

First off, I want to thank you who helped me get my 454 tow motor lit and running great. I thought I might be able to get away with using the 18" glasspacks that I used on my engine test stand......then I realized that I must have smoked crack at some point in my life and did permanent damage. They would be fine if I was in a hill-billy truck pull contest but........

This truck is budget all the way. I'm looking for a non-restrictive muffler without the flowmaster $$$. I'm sure other companies have been trying to get that flowmaster sound for a more affordable price. I tried the Raptors on my Camaro and they sounded like SH#T....then I went to super 40's and wow! Just trying to find an econo muffler that wont sound like crap. Are there any good sounding, cheap mufflers out there???? Once again....this thing looks like $300 coming down the road. Thanks!

Updated: It looks like Summit sells a welded and chambered muffler for $37!!! I'm thinking that has got to be the way to go???

Nothing sounds like a Flowmaster to me, IMO anyways. I'm not sure about cheap Flowmaster knockoffs but I think each company tries to do what Flowmaster did and make their own unique sound so I think you'd be hard pressed to find something that sounds similar.

I've heard a lot of different mufflers as I'm sure you have, but I couldn't recommend anything cheap that has a nice sound. My second favorite sounding mufflers are the SpinTechs and then Mac but neither of those are very cheap.

If you want to save some $$ - try searching craigslist for some used flowmasters - they're out there all the time.

"fake" flowmasters will never sound like a real one. Most times the gauge of the sheetmatal case or baffles is different which create a different "tinny" sound. I agree with you on the super 40s. They sound aMazing on a built motor. Search ebay or craigslist for used sets.

I just bought some 3'' FLOWSOUND mufflers off of ebay and they sound great. They have a DEEP smooth sound to them. I put them on my $300 junk truck 454. I paid $80 shipped. Here is the link:
