motor for 79?

hello everyone im about to purchase a 79 z-28 with a T-10 4 speed trans and no motor? what would be a good motor to drop in..... do i have to stay small block or will BB bolt to the T-10? any opinions are greaty appreciated.... Re: motor for 79?

My 77 was originally a big block car I was told.

All you need is the right bellhousing and I don't know squat about that. Ain't my thing. There's guys here that can tell you the part# you need though,,,,they'll be around.

Ummm.... They didn't build Big Block cars in '77.

Re: motor for 79?

Beats me. I'll believe you. All I know is the guy I bought it from said when he bought it 10 years before it had a bigblock and he surely would recognize a BB when removing it to install an SB.

Smile Re: motor for 79?

The 2nd gens of the early 70's, had big blocks. A big block will fit. I wouldn't go big block in a 79. A 383 stroker (small block) would fit and run nicely.

383 is .030 over 350 block with 3.75 stroke crank(400) so .040 over could be 388.

Good luck with that. I like the 75-77 bodystyle cars. I'll take one in dark metallic blue. Have fun with it.
