Distributor Gear

I just purchased a Pertronix distributor for my new 350/330 hp GMPP crate engine.
The engine came with the stock HEI, but there is no room for the cap and I dont want to dent my firewall.
I understand that I need to use the melonized distributor gear, but what will happen if I use the stock steel gear on the pertronix?
The inside diameter of the HEI gear is smaller than the Pertronix gear...I guess I could have this machined to fit the Pertronix, but is there anyone who sells the correct diameter melonized gear for the Pertronix?

Roller cams have to use a softer dizzy gear. There is no way around it.

comp cams has gears. Or you could call performance distributors in Memphis.

Unless GM (or you) has changed the 330hp crate engines to a roller cam, you do not need a melonized gear. All of the previous 330hp crate motors had hydraulic flat tappet cams in them.

I'm couious how Summits Dizzy "Summit SUM-850055" is an iron gear and compatible with both flat tappet and hyd roller cams? How does this work. I have a ZZ4 motor with this in it.
