186 heads: 1.5 with hardended valve seats to 1.6?

I have a chance to buy a 3927186 head that is a 1.9 intake and 1.5 exhaust with hardened valve seats on the exhaust.

Can this head be converted to a 2.02 / 1.60? If it was, would it have to have hardened valve seats installed on the exhaust (because it has them on the 1.5 )? Is this a bad idea?

Should I wait to find a set that does not have hardened valve seats (2.02/1.6 or 1.9/1.5)?

Is it best to find a virgin set of 1.9/1.5 and have them cut to 2.02/1.6?

I had 186 heads on mine and they were 2.02 1.60 valves. Those heads are the good ones with the accessory holes drilled in them

Recommend leaving the exhaust's "as-is", the 1.500's with the seats.

You won't know the difference with the 1.600's.

Put the 2.020's in and be happy!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. You COULD (and most likely will) end up with some "junk"! Not worth the risks. We do these almost weekly on exhaust seats. We have both, special inserts (custom made) AND special blades with some 3/32" radii on both. This lowers/eliminates the risk of "hitting water"!
