My New Dougs Headers

I bought a set of Dougs Headers on Friday and just wanted to let everyone know that these fit great. Both the driver and passenger side tuck up tight against the floor. These are for a SBC and have the 1 5/8" primaries, part# D308.

Re: My New Dougs Headers

Kurt,

Here are the additional pictures you asked for. I'm very pleased with them, they fit very nice and well made. They come with quality gaskets and hardware.

Re: My New Dougs Headers

Clint- Good post, I was wondering about those for my car.
Is yours a stick or auto and if stick, how do they clear the clutch linkages.

Thanks!

Re: My New Dougs Headers

Tom,

Mine is going to have a TH350. It looks like there is a lot of room for the linkage, etc. Let me know if you want to see more pictures, I can post tomorrow. I'm really happy with the fit and quality. They have 3/8" flanges and 16 gauge tubing.

They do look like they fit your car nice. What if you have a steering box ? What if you had a/c ? No offense, but just about anything should fit that.

The ceramic coated at Summit are $546. The Hooker headers are $365. That is a price difference of $181 ! My Hooker headers fit fine. They would not clear a factory a/c suitcase though. I am using '69 302/350 frame mounts, which is a requirement ! Here is a pic of my headers, clearing my steering box ! Yes, it looks busy, but everything IS installed and no denting or modifications.

I am curious about Doug's Headers and that cylinder # 5 header tube. It looks like it is right in the way for a steering box !

Re: My New Dougs Headers

i think doug headers are the best, reason why they have thicker flange that means better seal I have a set on my S10 350 S.B. and they have been on for seven years and no laek had them off few times.

Both Doug's and Hooker header's have 3/8" flanges. I am not trying to bash Doug's Header's, but let's compare apples to apples.

Re: My New Dougs Headers

I have Hooker ceramic on my BBC and had to notch the subframe.I bought the headers from a speed shop around me and the owner said they would fit but didn't.When it came time to put them on it was about 4 months after I bought them so he would not take the back.

Re: My New Dougs Headers

I put on my power steering box today and the headers seem to clear ok. The box is AGR so I'm not sure if this is different from the stock box. I still have to hook up the hoses. I will be running a vintage air setup so I'm not sure about clearing a stock ac system.

The purpose of this thread was just to let people know how this brand of header fits. I know there has been questions in the past on header recommendations.

Talking Re: My New Dougs Headers

Clint, Yes many people have header fitment issues. Their main issues are with the steering box and the a/c suitcase. You didn't have any of those parts installed ! All headers fit great on the floor of the shop ! Now you do have your PS box in. At least NOW we know they clear. We didn't before. So far the only place Doug's has Hooker's beat is that they tuck up nicer at the floors and they are even. The Hooker's hang down lower on one side. I personally don't feel that 1" is worth $181.00. My car is a driver and not a show queen though.

Smile Re: My New Dougs Headers

Dave,

1st of all, Your car is beautiful !

2nd your car is a big block with an aftermarket subframe ! You were lucky to get any headers to fit a special application ! How can you blame Hooker headers, when they didn't fit a vehicle that was not stock ?

A FACTORY STOCK Big Block engine is offset 1" to the passenger side and yours is not !

Don't blame the manufacture if you don't use their product as it was intended !
