Oil Adapter Bolt Torque

Got a new ZZ4 crate engine and installing the oil filter adapter.. has two bolts that go into the block.. anybody know what the bolts should be torque'd to? I've searched but haven't seen anything.. Obviously, I can crank them down to what I think is tight, but don't want to strip/shear if too tight, or have one come out and have the consequences of a loose oil filter..

Re: Oil Adapter Bolt Torque

they are the 5/16 bolts.. I got them from summit.. thanks for the info.. I didn't think there was much torque on them.. think I will go with the 12-15..

one other quick question.. for new engine break in, what type of oil? synthetic? 10w-40? i plan on priming the oil pump/engine, and changing again a few hours after startup..

10w 40 castrol, i wouldnt use syn. oil.......after the cam breaks in and you put about 500 miles on it you can use castrol 20w-50...factory bolts are 7/16..just torque the 5/16 bolts to 12ftlbs...make sure to get as much oil in the filter as you can before you screw it up on there...

A ZZ4 is a modern roller cam crate engine with tight clearences. No cam break-in with a roller cam and I believe it's factory recommended for 5w30.

Re: Oil Adapter Bolt Torque

As far as bolt size goes I think we are mixing the size or the bolt head up with the size of the threaded portion (which is actually the bolt size). A 7/16 bolt is fairly large and not what's used to hold on a oil filter adapter. 5/16 is more likely the actual size.

Re: Oil Adapter Bolt Torque

just twist the bolts snug with a 3/8" ratchet, and start it up with whatever oil they recommend.

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?
