HEI Clearance, I know old stuff but need info

I installed a zz383 with 5 speed tremec yesterday and everything went
perfect untill I tried to put in gm hei. I used a long piece of square
metal wedged between engine and a dolley and pushed firewall back
slightly and dist fell into place, but the [email protected] wires are still rubbing.
It's a tight fit, my question is how much clearance do I need for
wires, I think with time they could rub thru and cause problems. I
want to keep gm unit, I'v been told they are good to have and it
came with crate motor. Tired of spending money ya don't have to
with this economy. Thanks, again

put a couple flat washers under transmission mount or get a 1/16 thick x1 1/2 wide flat steel & put 2 holes in it & slide it under trans mount.worked for me

Anthony, Thank's for the idea, I put a few washers on tranny mount plate and
now have enough clearance for hei. Had to push in firewall a hair, you can't tell
with dizzy in place, now I have about 1/2" clearance, thanks again, Bill

There is several trans mounts, all different heights..there is about 10mm from memory between them.
Get the higher mount or shim as mentioned above, but I think u will need more than 1/16"
more likely 10 to 12mm...use a bit of scrap bar.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

I moved my subframe about 1/4 in. forword from the factory line up holes to get needed clearance without messing with firewall. My tremec trans.vent did not have anymore clearance to shim the cross member up anymore.

I switched to a pertronix dist. and coil. Fits really nice and works great.
