Vortec head questions

I just got my Vortec heads from Summit today

Question: can I use the headbolts from the old Gen.1 heads, or do I need new bolts to fit?

Also, what pushrod length do I need: hyd. cam, not too big, Comp Cams roller tip rockers (self aligning)? Thanks.

ps - I'm really disappointed to find out the heads are cast in Mexico and my Weiand Stealth intake is made in China ! $%$!&*

They don't tell you that in the catalog. Next time, I'll buy an Edelbrock manifold.

Re: Vortec head questions

Stock head bolts will work fine. Also stock length pushrods should work BUT you should ALWAYS check first.

Re: Vortec head questions

other than the intake manifold, self guided rocker arms, and center bolt valve covers the vortecs are a direct swap with older heads.. you will also need a water temp sending unit with 3/8 npt threads instead of the 1/2" npt used in the older stuff.

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

Re: Vortec head questions

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't thought about the water temp unit size. I've decide to return the chinese intake and buy an Edelbrock.

Oh, what type/size spark plugs should I be using? I'm using a stock HEI distrbutor. Thanks

I feel your pain on that weiand intake. Had to return my #8151 stealth intake that I whated to use w/ some 062 vortec's I'm rebuilding. Workmanship and machining was really bad. I'm going back to edelbrock, new or used.

spark plugs- AC Delco R44LTSM or R45LTSM. you can also get "LTS" plugs without the "M"- i forget what the "M" means. i think it is a more projected tip or something..
they are a 3/4" reach tapered seat plug with a 5/8" hex.

Would there be a benefit to using the marine plugs? What would be the difference like which one is better?
