Leaking Thermostate Gasket

Other then obvious casting damage which has to be repaired, I've found, over the years, that a leather gasket cut from an old glove works the best.

I've posted this because I've seen lots of members asking for a FIX !!!!!

He Ron: Our paint sprayers use a set of leather packings, nylon plastic and rubber to help seal our paint rigs.

Re: Leaking Thermostate Gasket

Ron,

I too will stick to the .99 Felpro Gasket.
Been using them for 35 years, and the only 2 that ever leaked on me where because I screwed them up. 2 our of 1000 are pretty good odds to me. Thanks for the info though.

Re: Leaking Thermostate Gasket

Believe it - It's FACT - Old Tech! - Cut out a Leather Thermostat Gasket from an Old Leather Glove.

And Torque the Bolts to say 25 to 30 PSI = NO PROBLEM-TOW ;o)

Re: Leaking Thermostate Gasket

Ron,
I believe you. And if I am ever stuck on a desert Island where I don't need my leather gloves I will use your technique. Or if I have no parts store available one day, I will try your technique.
I can also wear gloves on my feet, but I am use to sox.

Re: Leaking Thermostate Gasket

There was a story floating around the town I grew up in about a guy that had an old vehicle, probably 40's or early 50's, that had a rod knocking. He dropped the pan, remove the babbit bearing, cut a chunk the right length out of an old belt, put the thing back together and it ran quite enough he could trade it in.

gotta love those small town stories..

as for the gasket thing, the Fel PRo gasket hanging on the wall at the parts store has always worked for me. the only time i've ever had a problem was when i was trying to get an aftermarket chrome water outlet to seal- my fix was to put a stock outlet on it.

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

Or put a piece of sandpaper on a hard and flat surface and make the thing flat.
