Z/28 291 heads

Does anyone know if 1968 "291" Z/28 cylinder heads come with pressed in studs or screw in studs w/guide plates. Also, is the cylinder head chamber shrowded on the intake valve side. I've seen this on the LT1 replacement heads. I'd appreciate the info, thanks, Todd.

Re: Z/28 291 heads

Todd, Original 1968 "291" heads come with pressed studs, screw in studs and guideplates where not factory installed until 70.
Also original 2.02 heads are machined around the Intake Valve area, if they are not machined then they are converted 1.94,s

Re: Z/28 291 heads

Hey RSZ I have a head question. What are the correct head numbers for 69 and 70 Z 28 heads? Are they the same heads with guide plates on the 70? Thanks

Mike , Both the 69 and 70 Z28 used the 186" casting cylinder head, the difference being that 70,s had screw in studs with guideplates. The studs and plates were introduced in the 70 model year to combat warranty issues from pulling the pressed in studs out of the 302 with mechanical camshaft. The heads are identical except for those changes.

Re: Z/28 291 heads

Todd,

Just pin the studs using 1/8" x 1" long roll pins and go.
