Re: whats a good fitting header for a 69 z28

I just got a set of Dyna Tech headers for my 67. I installed ny engine last week end and put the headers on just to see and they fit perfect, plenty of clearance with the steering box and did not hang below the sub frame. I tried to remove plugs and that was not a problem even with the angle plug AFR's i have. I used thier steped headers and went with the 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 primary tubes with 3" colectors. The fitment and finish were geat i am very happy. Mike

Re: whats a good fitting header for a 69 z28

I just removed a 3 year old set of TriY's that fit great on AFR heads. I went to larger heads that required a larger exhaust port header, went to Dougs D368. Both of these are long tube headers and fit very well.

Re: whats a good fitting header for a 69 z28

I have heddman coated 15/8 full length headers. they fit good and clear my manual steering box by about 1/4 inch. Never had any leaks and they've been on for 5 years now. They are in a 69z with a vortec headed 350 and a mucie 4 speed. I had to reverse the clutch pedal return spring so that it could be used, but it works.

Re: whats a good fitting header for a 69 z28

if it's a true Z with the proper 302/350 mount setup, then Hedmans will fit.
if it is a clone-umm, i mean tribute- with 307/327 mounts, then Dynomax headers will fit.
it's easy to tell which mounts you have- the 302/350 mounts will put the stock distributor about an inch away from the firewall, and the 307/327 mounts will have a couple of inches back there.

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

Re: whats a good fitting header for a 69 z28

I dont know about the 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 on a 302. I would go with the smaller 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 to try and keep some tourqe on the lower end since the dont have much any way below 4500 rpm. I use the larger on a 406 with 520 HP and 525 ft lbs of tourqe so i had plenty down low. I thought about keeping it small untill i measured my exhaust ports and they were a hare larger the 1 5/8 so thats why i went with the larger. My Dyna tech's fit great. No issues at all. Let me know how it goes.

Re: whats a good fitting header for a 69 z28

I think 1 3/4 or 1 7/8" primary tubes on a 302 is an over kill unless you have all the good stuff and run motor at 8500 all day long and wear a funny looking hat or from Malvern, Pa.

Go for the smaller tubes for street or show.
