Is a 350 a 350?

I have 1979 Camaro. The engine in it is from a 1978 Corvette. (305 blew up). I am in the market for a new camshaft and lifter set.

Question: When shopping around do I need to specify that my small block is a L48? Or does it not matter. Can I just say I have a small block 350cid?

I think a 350 is 350, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for any feed back.

Re: Is a 350 a 350?

An older, about 10 to 1 CR's and even the lower CR's L-48 350 engines used the great old -929 hy-cam.

It's spec'd at 195/202, 112/108, .390"/.410" lift. And this is where the good old generic 204/214, 112/107 or so, .420"/.442" Performer cam come's into play here!Great stock to mild engine cam, imho.

Re: Is a 350 a 350?

Gen 1 small block engines went up to about 1986 and had two piece rear main seals. After that, Gen 1 small blocks had one piece rear main seals. These blocks were otherwise identical and most parts swapped without issue.

Then in 1993 or so, the aluminum-head LT1 reverse-cooling 350 came out. Then in 1998 or so, the all aluminum LS1 350 came out.

Except for the way lower compression ratio's after the smog engines came out w/ their 74 to 76 cc chambered heads and dished pistons vs the old 64 to 66 cc chambered heads and flat-top pistons in I want to say '71???

Or was it '72?
