Question Oil pump mounting gasket?

Does the SBC oil pump require a gasket between the pump and its mounting point on the block? The old pump did not have a gasket !

Thanks for all replies ahead of answers.

Re: Oil pump mounting gasket?

I agree^.No gasket reqd between the pump housing and rear main cap mounting surface.Lightly oil the threads and underside of the mounting bolt head and torque to spec.

Re: Oil pump mounting gasket?

metal to metal. Check both surfaces for dings. Prime the pump before install(pour oil in it and turn it so it sucks the oil down not pushes back). yeah most of it gets all over but you've still primed the pump and know it will pump.

There is however, supposed to be a gasket between the filter adaptor and block. I've seen too many of them on cherry OEM blocks to let some zit faced child at O'reilly tell me there is no such gasket. Which also doesn't mean I haven't built a couple dozen that I didn't put a gasket there.
