Dougs headers

I hope I posted this in the right category...

I'm looking to buy Dougs D-368 headers for my '69 Camaro.

I have a 350 with Vortec heads, automatic floor shift, PS, PB, no A/C.

I'm hoping the vortec heads won't be an issue, or the steering box.

The d-368's have 1 3/4" tubes, while the D-308's have 1 5/8" tubes. The catalogs call for the D-368 for the Camaro...

If you know of any potential problems (ie fit, etc) please let me know.

The D-368 header is about the best fitting header of this size and for the money. I just converted from a set of TriY's 1 5/8" tubes to the D368. I had no fitment issues at all. One thing for sure, the driver side header needs to come up from the bottom and pretty much straight up. Need to have the car jacked up as high as possible and linkage out of the way. I would leave header protective wrapping on , until you get header up into position. I am not sure about your auto linkage, I do think the lock out rod needs to be removed if you have one.
Worst case would be to loosen driver side engine mount and raise motor .
I am not sure about the Vortec heads, the ports maybe be raised higher but then the ports are smaller? I went to the D368 due to larger exhaust port heads so maybe you will seal.
Lets see what the other guys have to say.

Thanks for the tips on installation and insight, Don. I don't have the lock-out linkage hooked up on the steering column, so it sounds like I should be okay. As far as fitting on the vortec heads, I think they should be okay, as I have stock manifolds on them now (circa 1968), so I'm betting I'm okay. I'm going to order them on Wednesday (told the family not to get me anything for my birthday!)...

What auto do you have? I ask because if it's a Powerglide, the 368's will not work. I know from experience.

Mark,

I have pretty close to the same setup, 350 sbc with vortec heads, TH350 auto, and power brakes. I used the Dougs 308s and had plenty of clearance. The only thing that would not work was the lockout linkage which I'm not even sure I had the right one. You'll be happy with either the 308 or 368 headers. Here are some pics:

The D368 headers are a great fitting header. I was very pleased with mine. I have 327 frame stands and energy suspension engine mounts.

Are there any issues w/ the starter - ie - too close to the starter ?

Thanks for the info and pics. I posted a question the other day and have gotten thumbs up for these headers (dougs 368). What is the differance detween the 368 and 308....

The 368s have 1 3/4" tubes and the 308s use a 1 5/8" tube. I think the price is about the same. No issues around the starter with the 308s.

Remember I called them and they told me they don't a header period for the Powerglide. They offer them for the th350 and 400, but not the PG. Same with Doug's.

I see he has a th350 so he should be good. My only reference was to the PG.

The 308s look like they have plenty of room around the steering box as the 368s look like they are much closer to the PS box in the pics. (or is it just the angle)

OK....so with the fast response from Summit, I ordered the Dougs 368s and got them on Friday. Put them in on Sat and noticed a couple of things.

1. The header is touching the Idler arm that is on the passenger side.

2. The header on the driver side is very close to the power steering box -but not touching. (3rd gen close ratio box)

I will post the pics when I have time tonight.
Any ideas???
Motor mounts or stands?
Would the D308s have been better?

I pulled out a 307 and replaced it with a 383. (the GM crate motor) & TKO 5 speed
