Smoke from Oil Breather Filter

Hello All,

I have a 1967 RS/SS with a 400 (406) small block engine. Just the other day I noticed that the engine sounded like it was missing. Also, this morning I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side oil breather filter. Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm hoping it's not a blown head gasket or a damaged piston. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Smoke from Oil Breather Filter

Blowby from worn rings is the usual cause. It's not uncommon to have a litttle, and I wouldn't worry about it as long as the engine runs fine otherwise. If it starts puffing like a locomotive is when you will need to tear the engine down.

I would pull the plugs and see if any are oil-fouled, which may be why it was missing.
