The carb tuning kit is $50.00 from edelbrock, it would probably help a little but I wouldn't invest any more money into the edelbrock, keep your holley, buy the correct power valve and tune it right and you shouldn't have any more of those symptoms, assuming your timing is correct.
Was the tach bouncing a few hundred rpm's and was the motor affected (also oscillating) or did the needle flick violently every now and then to high rpm's?
If it flicked violently, a few autometer's I have run across do that, for the price, they shouldn't, but in reality they are really the only decent gauge maker around so we are pretty much forced to deal with their outrageous prices and okay readings...
