Ruff finish on main carb block is this normal?

My question too those that have taken apart a 4053 carb apart.

After takeing apart my carb,I have notice a very rough broach like finish on the main carb body (both sides) that the metering blocks/gasket meet up to.I need to check for flatness but thought the finish would be a smoother.
