Re: Air gap

I've got a 496 with this intake and a 1/2 spacer with a drop base air cleaner and have a few whiskers to spare. Is a 502 a tall deck?

Re: Air gap

I have fit an Edelbrock Air Gap on a 454 in a 68 under a stock SS hood - it was a pretty short air cleaner element on a drop base but it barely cleared.

I added a spacer plate to reduce heat in the carb and a nitrous plate and it fits under a cowl hood with hood insulation fine.

Re: Air gap

From my personal experience the factory style drop base that comes with the open element breather assemby on SS and Z/28 cars offer the most drop. I fit a Six inch K/N filter under a cowl hood on a hot rod I had years back. I did have to do approx 1/2" of trimming on the rear of the hood opening for clearance. I could see the filter through the back side of the hood when sitting in the car.

I dont suggest this on a high profile or originl car by no means.
