cooling fan blade size

Does anyone know if the blades on some GM cooling fans are longer than others? I have a 76 camaro and the engine came out of a 86 chevy truck. The blades look as if they will hit my hood if I close it. I do not have a fan shroud to measure it with. I am afraid to close my hood. Thanks

Re: cooling fan blade size

There are many sizes of cooling fans used on GM products. I used the fan off a Cadillac on my Nova because it fits inside the shroud.

I think the most common are 15", 17", 18" or 19". There are probably more.

Re: cooling fan blade size

I guess I need to try and find a shroud and go from there. Those things are as scarce as hens teeth though.
