How to tell if I have Solid or Hydraulic Lifters?

Hello All,

I purchased a 68 camaro a few months back. The owner either doesn't remember or recall what's exactly in it but this is what I've found out.

Looks to be an L79 327 with the original camel hump heads.

Two basic questions:

How do i check what valve size i have without measuring the vales? (probably not possible)

How do i check if i have hydraulic vs. solid lifters? And what lash settings should i use?

Thanks - Danny

Re: How to tell if I have Solid or Hydraulic Lifters?

maybe answering my own question but apparently hydraulics have a wire clip holding the lifter in and solids have a c-clip. I think I have Hydraulics lifters then.

Pull a valve cover and roll the motor over to TDC - you will have some play in the rockers with a solid cam on #1 or #6 pistion - if they are tight you have hydraulic lifters. Solid lifters also have a bit of chatter to them you can hear faintly when running.
