Cylinder Head warranty heat tabs

I just got my 186 heads back from the machine shop and notice that they put those heat tabs on them. I want it to look original and was wondering about how to take them off clean.

Thanks TC

MM

I'm pretty sure they epoxy them. You can pop them off (and lose warranty) also may need to wire wheel a little before paint.

TC,
I just use silicon, they should pop right off.

Re: Cylinder Head warranty heat tabs

You rebuilding block to?
I would say it would be a big mistake to remove them before warrenty....
remove them and you can be assured Murphy will step in

Lets say something goes wrong in the block...they use the excuse, "oh hot does that"
Well with the tags on the block, their goes that excuse...

And it removing usually means ALL waranty goes, like machining valve guides off center...everything

At the end of the day what is the hassle leaving them on for now and touch up later?

Never underestimate the Power of Murphy...

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

No, I am saying that we use silicon (RTV) to stick them to the head. They are usually not attached real good and should come right off.

Re: Cylinder Head warranty heat tabs

Can't you position the heads so they are at the rear?
If not, can they relocate them for you?

Re: Cylinder Head warranty heat tabs

Went out today and used a screwdriver to pry them off. They peeled right off like Bill K said . Thanks
Mike
