Do water pumps squeal?

G`day all my 67 small block 327 has started making a loud high pitched squealing sound. It does not make it when the engine is cold only once it has warmed up and goes away if I increase the revs but then comes back. It is extremely loud and can be heard from around 100 feet away.
I am thinking water pump bearing or impella, had anyone had a similar problem?

Thankyou in advance
Steve

Re: do water pumps squeal?

loosen the belt or take it off the water pump and spin the pulley by hand to see if you feel it grinding while you turn it or see if you have play in it, rock it back and forth...also could be the water pump belt out of adjustment or a worn belt?

Re: do water pumps squeal?

And when the main bearing is worn "about to fail" generally the seal on the end leaks or there is a leak from the small breather hole underneath the waterpump in between the fins.

to check if it is the belt, pour water on the belt and see if the squeel stops temporarally.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

Re: do water pumps squeal?

Sorry I forgot to post that I checked all the belts first by spraying them with a belt dressing lubricant and that didn't stop the squealing.
Thanks I will drop the belts over the weekend and see if its the water pump.
