solid lifter soak?

I am putting back together my stock 69 Z28 302. I am using a new GM performance stock grind camshaft and new solid lifters that came with it. Is it a good idea to soak those lifters in oil before installing them?

Thanks,
Chris

Thumbs up Re: solid lifter soak?

Not necessary for solids.
Just make sure you use a good assembly lube on the cam and lifter bases. I like "Red Lines" assembly paste and apply it with a small good soft brush.
A few friends are using the new Permatex product and like it so far.

I like to squirt the lifter bores down with a little fresh 5w oil prior to installing the lifters - either solids or hydraulic - to make sure they can move freely in their bores to rotate during the first few revolutions as I manually crank the engine over prior to and during pressure pre-lube.

Re: solid lifter soak?

make sure you coat the hell out of the cam lobes and lifters.
also a good idea to use some zinc additive in your breakin oil
