Head Gasket Help

Getting ready to put my SB 350 back together. Block has been bored 0.030 and decked 0.010, will be running flat top pistons with 64cc heads (#186s w/ bigger valves screw-in studs and roller rockers). Don't mind running a little racing fuel/gas mixture but not straight racing fuel. What would be a good head gasket to use and approximate compression ratio?

your not running nitro or the block isnt o ringed the above are just fine!

fel pro head gasket (7733pt-2) $19.79 or
fel pro (hs7733pt-2) $39.59 with bolts or
the full complete set (ks2600) $47.99
those will work from summit but you can buy these and save money at advance auto in your town...!...plus no shipping if you get then in town!

Autozone has the KS2600 kit for $45.99 plus tax. Will those head gaskets work well with my motor?

will work with just about any small block with stock pre-'86 intake pattern ...

If you run a stock .040" head gasket your quench is going to be .050"
I'd look into a .025-.028" composite, I run them from fel-pro, the box actually said victor reinz or something...

The only Mustang I'd ever own is a Fender.

If your pistons are .010" or less in th hole a regular felpro gasket is fine.You dont want to use a thicker gasket to reduce compression because the extra quench distance will make detoation worse then if you actually had the higher compression ratio.

Your compression with a standard .040" gasket, .010" deck height, 4.030" X 3.48" and pistons with 8cc's of relief would equal around 9.82:1 which is fine for regular grade gas especially if the cam is a little larger than stock.

With the .025" gasket you will be around 10.17:1

It's your call, either of the two would work, I personally like the quench around .035-.040"

I agree with Rich's statement.

I'm assuming the KS2600 kit has the 0.040 head gaskets, if so, does anyone know if they sell a kit with the 0.025 head gaskets?

If the block was decked .010 he should have .015 left ! With a .029 gasket the quench should be about perfect at .044.

69 Camaro -originally a LM1 car. 327, Edelbrock E-streets, hooker, DUI performance distributors, ultradyne cam, stewart, TRW etc. Vintage Air, AGR steering, Corbeau GTSII seats, 700R4 transmission, 12-bolt w/Eaton 4.11:1

If thats true and they TOOK .010" off and he is left with .015" DITH then he would def. want to run a thinner than stock gasket.

Guess I'll need to measure the distance from the top of the piston to the deck at TDC to determin DITH, then measure the lip on the heads. What total measurement am I shooting for including the head gasket?

If thats the case you would need a shim steel gasket, you can use them if your DITH is .015", the only time I would use a gasket that thin though is if I know the block and heads were true and straight.
.035"-.040" is good.
I don't think you could tell the difference with what ever quench you go with though, it's probably so minimal hp wise.
