What is this hole for ?

Getting ready to put the flywheel , clutch set and bellhousing on my engine. It is a 350 small block and will go in a 69. I think it is a 97 model block, not sure. I noticed this threaded hole on the drivers side above the oil filter ( see attach). Can anyone tell me what this is for ? Can I plug it or do I need it for something ?

That's where the ball stud for your clutch linkage (Z-bar) goes.

Re: What is this hole for ?

Nice picture. Another question, In your picture ,are the 2 small holes that are toward the top of the heads about one inch below the covers for a wire bracket . They are centered just above the headers ?

Thanks again..

Re: What is this hole for ?

Its the hole that tells you that the block is worn out and no good anymore.I cost a lot of money to fix.I will help you out and give you $50 for the engine so you can start saving for a new one

The factory used those blind holes on the Vortec heads to mount various things like heat shields and brackets. Most aftermarket headers will cover those anyway, so they are not needed.
