Re: Painting an engine?

It's going to be pretty tough to paint it while it's in the car. I have heard of guys "touching-up" their engine paint while in the car. I would take the front of the motor apart; alternator, fan, power steering pump (if equipped), etc. Then tape off everything and anything that you don't want to paint. The key is to get the motor absolutely clean; anywhere that you paint over grease or dirt, the paint will not stick and you will be disappointed. Try brushes, degreaser, and a final wipe with brake-kleen to get the oil off. Take your time and be patient. Good Luck!

Re: Painting an engine?

There is no way you can paint everything with it in the car.
It's going to look bad, sorry, just my opinion.
It's really not that hard to pull it.

Re: Painting an engine?

You might want to call the people at POR 15 and ask about their engine paint. They have a kit to paint your engine with a brush.

Re: Painting an engine?

Not sure I would try Por-15 on a engine that wasn't being taken out. Going to be hard to get the block really clean for Por-15.

However I can attest that Por-15 is great (provided that you can get the prep perfect; otherwise don't bother):
