SBC Cam Motion Billet

Hey guys, got a question, I have done this before but this don't sound right. I was ordering a GM cam for one of those GM 383 roller motors. The are no GM cams anywhere locally, all on backorder thru GM but local dealer , Scoggin Dickey found a core to be ground from Cam Motion. Just got it in, its a hyd roller billet, they tell me that this one takes a stock melonized gear?

Normally I hear this when the core is cast but this one is billet. Anyone ever heard this on these new stock roller motors?

Guess I will get on the phone on the morning to Cam Motion, just to verify.

Re: SBC Cam Motion Billet

I don't know about stock cams, tho this one don't sound stock, but my lunati billet roller (and many others these days) the back couple inches (gear and rear bearing) are iron and are pressed on.

Re: SBC Cam Motion Billet

Thanks Jim, probably knew better than to ask this question as I have been down this road. Just never heard of this statement. I called Cam Motion this morning, they did clairify that the core is indeed billet and I "could" use the stock GM dist gear , but I "could " have issues just as the constant inspection of a brass gear.
Cam Motion did offer their treated gear that will do the same as the plastic composite gear. So I went this route upon their assurances. Thanks
