Pump to carb fuel line?

I'm replacing the Holley on my 69 with a Q-jet. The car has an earlier model 327 w/short pump and driver's side alt. Currently the only fuel lines on the car are the 3/8" feed from the tank and rubber hose from pump to carb. The sending unit has the 1/4" return, but it is blocked off. My question is, with the Q-jet can I just run a hard line for a 68 327 from the pump to the carb and install an inline filter in between the tank and the feed line? Or do I need to run the 69 setup with the filter and return line in between the pump and carb? For the latter setup, I would need the 3 piece pump to carb line set, filter with return and the 1/4" return to the tank correct? I can't believe how much they want for that filter and the 1/4" return line. Thanks for your help.

Re: Pump to carb fuel line?

I would just buy (or build) a repro steel pump to carb fuel line for a 68 (short water pump) small block/Qjet setup, and install a filter in the carb like the factory did.
