Engine rotation

i have to rotate my engine by hand to get to all of my torque converter bolts. does it matter which direction I rotate? I am rotating with a breaker bar from front. This is a new install and the motor has set for a few years. I suspect it is going to be a bit tough to turn. I have removed all plugs.

Re: engine rotation

I like to turn them clockwise, but not from the harmonic balancer bolt.

This tool will make things much easier and safer.

Re: engine rotation

it doesnt matter which way you turn the engine over, the engine really doesnt care which way it goes.

back in the 70's a guy at the local oval track would run his engines backwards so the torque would push the tires down towards the ground on the bends and not up into the air

Re: Engine rotation

I was wondering how something would work with the pulleys installed. Now I understand.

It is easy to strip the threads on a high compression engine.

Re: Engine rotation

Just pull all the spark plugs out, and turn the flex plate leveraging with a long screwdriver or use a ring spanner on the flex plate bolts.....its not rocket science.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative
