New 69 z28 harmonic balancer install ?

I just purchased a new 8 inch jegs harmonic balancer for my stock 69 z28 engine. I am really worried how hard it is going on using a mac tool installer. I have it on now about half way and it stripped the long bolt that runs inside the tool. I dont want to take the chance of stripping the crank threads. Any ideas of what might be wrong or any tricks I can use to get it the rest of the way on without damaging anything?

Thanks,
Chris

Haul the engine and balancer to your local builder. Have him hone the balancer for a fit. That's a common need for ATI's and other higher-end stuff, they're intentionally small out of the box and need to be fitted to the crank.

Just a thought. The harmonic balancer on a small block doesn't go 'ALL' the way on the crank. It sticks out about 1" if I remember correctly.

69 SS, 350/300 h.p., M-20, 12 bolt, matching numbers.

Wonder if the second key did not flip on the snout? Need to remove and inspect.
