i cant turn the harmonic balancer?? for TDC

i have a350 , im trying to get my engine to TDC. i was trying to turn the crank by the harmonic balancer to feel the the #1 cylinder. But i cant turn it. all the spark plug wires are removed and there is no distributo in there. Any suggestions?

Manual transmission? Is it in neutral?

Brian,

Make sure the spark plugs are removed.

Try removing the spark plugs too, not just the wires.

didnt mean to say wires. the spark plugs are removed. I will check about it being in nuetral. I dont believe it is.

And don't forget to keep your thumb over the #1 hole when you're trying to find TDC. The damper mark will line up at TDC for both #6 and #1. It will only build pressure on the #1 cylinder when coming around on TDC for #1 though.

Don't use the Damper Bolt and turn the Engine Counter Clock Wise with the Plugs in or In Gear because you will loosen it and have to take the Starter off to jam the Flywheel in order to Re-Torque it.

The engine should turn over with approx 25ft/lbs of pressure maybe more depending on Valve Spring Pressures. If it don't you got a Rub in there or possible seized from sitting around, in which case you will have to lube the Rings with Kerosene or Rust Check and let her sit while.
