Re: patriot sbc heads opinon ?

My dad just bought this and put it in his truck rod. I think it will work well in your car. the thing we learned is there is alot of changes from old school engines. The square port exhaust hooked up to a round block headers, keeping it from leaking. There was a lot of little things we needed to no. Like external balance flex plate. There are little holes near intake seal that when you use old style intake have to be plugged. Special spark plugs, etc. The problem we ran into was converting an old 1969 350 engine with this one and all the changes that we had to make were very irratating. Valve covers we could not reuse from other engine.

Darrell,

I have no experience with patriot heads, don't have any local racers that I know of that use them. But there are plenty of horror stories about these heads on the net, and there are people that report good results with them as well in cyber.

Personally, i would shell out a few more bills and get some canfields or darts or AFRs or Brodix etc...

If the motor runs and doesnt have a vacum leak or leaks period. buy it.

I run them. I have no issues and they make plenty of power.

They compared them to steel vortecs, they barely beat them.
If there are no leaks, as said before buy the motor.
Check the intake very closely, and especially the rocker arms and their geometry.
I could go into detail about all of the horror stories, but to save this thread from becoming and outright pissing match, I will refrain.
Just my $.02, and looking out for you.

I used regular exhaust manifold gaskets for the round port headers, no leaks, and much better than just about any other "header" gasket out there.
I've went through just about all header gaskets, none of them compare to the sealing quality of individual exhaust manifold gaskets. Another member on the board here helped me install them, we both know the pros and cons.

My dad's engine lost a cylinder and metal in #1 cylinder after 147 miles so i would stay clear. Still don't no all details but one thing they said is something about intake problems with engines and possible valve guide drop?
