Cylinder head question

Just got a used 396 engine and all exh. passages on the heads are carboned up and fairly black but 1 cylinder is not so much but has some surface rust. Should this be a concern ? Previos owwner said he knew of no problem and seemed honest. Oil is clean but dark and there was still coolant in the engine and he said he never topped off or saw smoke. Am I just paranoid ?

Re: Cylinder head question

could of been very rich in the jets setting of the carb, you wouldnt tell unless you smelled it most times.
