New cam came snapped in half

My new cam came today from Comp, open the box and what do I find? I have two mini cams. It was shipped UPS. Called COMP right away but hung up after being on hold for 45 min. I'll try again tomorrow. Has this happened to anybody else?

Re: New cam came snapped in half

I just saw a thread about someone's cam going flat and someone posted with the same thing.

Any damage to the box? Take pictures. I'd expect Comp or UPS to cover it.

Re: New cam came snapped in half

Hmmm, CompCams sure seems to have it's problems. Perhaps they should look at Toyota's play book?

Oh 2 Honda Cams! LMAO.

Seriously you have to chuck a cam pretty hard to break it, if the box is undamaged from UPS it must have happened at Comp. IMO.

Re: New cam came snapped in half

It's their attempt at variable valve timing. Back half only.

Re: New cam came snapped in half

Comp will take care of you.

As for the lobes going flat it has been discussed a few times lately and its not the cam manufacturer/materials, its the lack of a crucial additive in the newer oils. They make an additive that you can add to your oil and if the cam was broken in properly it will help to prevent this.

The outer box and the factory box are undamaged.

Re: New cam came snapped in half

It happened to me too! I thought I heard a jingle when I picked up the box, opened it, and sure enough...I had twins staring at me!! Comp covered everything. No problems whatsoever.

Re: New cam came snapped in half

just a story here. Back in the day. i worked for a Company Called Cam Dynamics, here in memphis. On an average day we would ship 30 to 40 cams a day. we used Film Trans. The pick up guy would take a cam (single) and throw it the full length of the truck to the front. I never figgered how thoes cam made it to the customer.
Comp will take care of it.
In my business i get boxes destroyed, cut open and mangled. This is why you pay 60 cents per hundred for insurance.

Re: New cam came snapped in half

I doubt it happened at the factory.
Cams break easier than you think, there is no way in heck they would let that get out the door.
Just cause they had a few cams go flat (i'm sure many other companies have too) doesn't mean that comp is the devil themselves.
I love comp, most companies get their cores from the same places, blame it on the foundry, NOT comp.
