Question BBC Cross member

Why do you have to have bb cross member? I have a tb400 cross member and trans in my car,but don't no wheather it bb or sm block. How can i tell? Ihave a bb in the car.

Not sure if I am missing something here, but the big block crossmember you may have read about is for the big block manual cars.

The Turbo 400 was only used behind bigblocks, so if you're using a stock T400 style crossmember then that is a BB crossmember. Measure it and you'll see it mounts the trans offset toward the passenger side of the car.

Same is true for a BB manual trans crossmember, except it looks just like a small block crossmember, until you get the measuring tape out (or inspect it closely, 1 corner of the whole where the trans bolts are is cut at a 45)
