alum. intake manifold leak

Can J-B Weld be used on alum to seal a small crack. When installing a brass plug into the heater hose threads there must have been an issue. No leaking prior to this. I used thread sealer with the brass plug but now have water perculating up the threads when the engine gets hot. The intake manifold had a previous repair but the threads seemed fine. Any help appreciated, thanks

Re: alum. intake manifold leak

Clean the tread with Lacquer Thinner and inspect thoroughly. If you don't see cracks it could just bad threads and Teflon Tape or more Goo on the threads will do the Job. If you see a Crack try and determine if it's not too extensive that you can not Drill and Tap for a larger Thread; other than this, I would look at getting it repaired. If it's an Edelbrock you can usually pick up a used one for $50.

Re: alum. intake manifold leak

thanks Ron, I did use a small metal brush to clean the internal threads and some crap was in there. Guess I may have left some so I'll clean it today. I want to keep this intake for now, it is a tall Victor that was match ground. If another clean up cant stop the leak, does it hurt to put JB or propoxy 20 into the last few threads and the top surface of the boss to permanently seal any crack? Larry
