I have had trouble with my hooker super comp header leaking on the left bank. My engine is a stock iron head 1969 302. I am putting it back together after a cam change and wonder what is the best header gasket to use to cure this problem ?
Chris; I'm looking for some of the same advice. I'm currently assembling a '69 302 and will probably be using my Hooker headers as well. What are you running for an exhaust behind the headers? I have a stainless chambered exhaust that I was running with stock manifolds on my 350 - wonder how headers will sounds with that same system. Thanks.

I use the Felrpo header gaskets between the header and head. Then use the SS bolts that have the allen screw in the middle of the head. You tighten the bolts then tighten the allen screw. The bolts will not loosen up and you should have no leaks. I had these on my small block for 10 years with no leaks and my big block now for 5 years with no leaks. This was both on aluminum heads.
Either that or the exhaust is loud and I cant hear the leak. Well my wife says I am hard of hearing anyway.
I use the Felpro metal/paper gasket that comes in their V8 rebuild gasket set. You can buy them separate. They look good without the extra material between ports and seal perfect with my Thorleys. No need to buy something expensive
