Wink Bad ignition switch or faulty starter??

It happened again this year. I started the Camaro up and the starter stayed engaged to the flywheel. I spent about $100.00 having the high torque Powermaster starter rebuilt last year. This time I quickly turned the key back and it stop squealing loudly. My ignition switch is new a few years ago. Went to start the car earlier and starter is wrecked again. Any ideas on this??? Thanks in advance and enjoy your day!!!

Re: Bad ignition switch or faulty starter??

it could be that the teeth of the starter drive are engaging too tightly with the ring gear, which causes it to not release properly.
the fix is to add a shim or two between the starter and block.
there is a "proper" way to check it- i think it involves a paper clip stuck between the starter drive teeth and ring gear teeth- but i've always done it by sound.

where in MN are you located?

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

Re: Bad ignition switch or faulty starter??

Thanks. After I get the starter rebuilt, I'll try to shim it differently.

I am by Princeton. North of Minneapolis about an hour.
