Oil hole misalignment in rear main bearing on 400 SBC?

I am putting together my 406 and noticed a big misalignment of the hole in the bearing and the hole in the block for the rear main. Is this normal? Is there anything I can or should do about it?

I am trying to attach a photo to show the misalignment.

Looks good from here. If you so desired, you could take a small rattail file and file out the hole from the journal side. Clean shell with alcohol to remove chips.

MATT From the picture it looks good to me and will work fine just the way it is without problem. If you do want to open it up you have 3 choices drill it bigger and chamfer the hole on both sides of the bearing file it or use a hi speed carbide burr on a cigar grinder this does require a lttle skill and a steady hand and again you must chamfer both sides of the brg so it sits in the register nice. Dont be afraid to drill the brg i have done it manny times on Oldsmobiles it has to be done when you install oil restrictors on an Olds engine this keeps more oil at the crank. whatever you decide you will be fine AL

Thanks guys. Being the first engine I have built I don't have any experience to rely on. Thanks for sharing yours. Glad to hear it is alright. I don't want to do any modifications if they aren't necessary. Just another thing to screw up.

Thanks again,

Matt
