Egr?

I ran a search, because I'm sure it's been discussed, but I'm looking at intakes and see some say "with EGR," and others "non-EGR."

Just a wild guess, but I presume most of us are not running any kind of external EGR. I've got headers and there's certainly nothing running from them to the intake to recirculate exhaust there.

But do large duration cams create a kind of de facto EGR?

Simpler question: do I have EGR?

Thanks.

Right -- I knew what EGR is, but, I admit, I did have to google it.

Like I said, I presumed it wasn't an issue, but I've got a 77 CJ-7, and it has all kinds of weird exhaust stuff going on. Granted it's 8 years "newer" than my 69, but I figured I'd rather be safe than sorry, and ask before I invest in an intake.

Re: Egr?

the egr valve normally closed through carb vacuum , recirculated exhaust gas though the intake manifold to heat the manifold up during cold stat up . as the motor heated up the egr would close and all exhaust gas was directed down the tubes

Re: Egr?

Excellent background, Mike, thanks!

I guess I was mostly concerned b/c, even though I suspected an emission control device wouldn't be an issue on a 69 model of anything, I was slightly concerned that, because I have after market crate motor something might be different -- emissions wise.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Egr?

the exhaust gas is directed to the intake through a port in the head .

Re: Egr?

Only need it if required by local emissions laws, and only if origional equipment.
